Olympiada Results

Since 2009, the editorial board of the literary magazine for Russian-speaking children Malenkaya Kompaniya, together with the American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR), conducts annual Olympiadas of Spoken Russian for heritage speakers (Heritage North region). ACTR material for children who have just started learning Russian can be found here. Children from 6 to 18 can take part in the contest (there are various levels depending on the age, whether the child studies Russian at home or at school, and other factors). There are three exam boards: Oral Speech, Reading, and Civilization. Each participant is evaluated by all three boards. Rules and materials for the preparation are here (in Russian). The application form can be found here

The first Olympiada took place in June 2009, and in April 2019 Malenkaya Kompaniya conducted the Eleventh Olympiada in New York City. 61 school students took part in the Olympiada, from 6 to 17 years old. 56 participants came directly to KidzHOME – House of Multicultural Education, and 5 more children took part in the Olympiada over Skype (from Singapore, California, Florida). The Twelfth and Thirteenth Olympiadas were held online, due to COVID-19. The Fourteenth Olympiada took place in person on May 1, 2022. There were 34 participants.
